With a wet week in the works, more people are finding ways to save the free running water.
"The interest has definitely been increasing every year," said Jennifer Nations with College Station Utilities.
Nations is making sure residents get their fill when it comes to the city's rain barrel rebate program.
With the purchase of a rain collection barrel or cistern from area retailers, the city will rebate $25 to CSU customers.
"Your rain barrel just has to be hooked up to get the rebate. You don't even need rain in it," said Nations.
College Station Utilities does practice what they preach with a 8,600 gallon cistern that is used to water the gardens around the building.
"Now that we do have opportunities to harvest rain fall, it has seemed to have picked up," said Nick Piwonka with Producers Cooperative.
Piwonka says they've been selling around five rain barrels a week. With a price tag of $27.99, the rain barrel will only cost you three dollars after the rebate.
"Ours are simple. They're made from recycled used food grade barrels and we put a hose bib on the bottom of them," said Piwonka.
And the simple savings don't stop with the rebate.
"Equipment that is used for rain water harvesting is exempt from state sales tax," said Nations.
Money for the rebate program is budgeted each year for CSU.
"The money for the rebate program is set aside annually in the utility budget, which in turn comes from utility revenues," said Nations.
The sales tax exemption does require an extra form but it's another way to save what will leave your garden green with envy.
Not only is the City of College Station providing rebates for rain barrel purchases, so is Robertson and Brazos Counties.
