Firefighters have been answering calls for a few days now from their new fire station, but Saturday, the College Station community got a chance to check it out.
Hundreds came out to the corner of University Drive and Tarrow to check out Fire Station Number 6 during the open house. That included everyday citizens and top city officials, including College Station Mayor Nancy Berry, who even christened the fire station after she slid down the fire poll.
"It's so special to have what we're going to have in this fire station," the mayor said. "It'll be here another 50 years, long after most of us will be here."
Free food was available, and kids got the chance to hang out with the firefighters while checking out their new digs.
Fire Station 6 opened December 3.
