BRYAN Officers say he was asleep behind the wheel of his truck, with his foot on the brake, Wednesday morning.
20-year-old Zachary Aaron Cheyne was found by officers asleep behind the wheel of Chevy pick-up truck at the intersection of W. North and S. College Avenue. Other drivers called 9-1-1 around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, saying they saw Cheyne asleep at the intersection. Officers arrived and found the truck was still running and in drive. Officers waited until there was no cross traffic before waking the driver.
Cheyne woke up when officers banged on his window. According to the arrest report, he seemed disoriented. Cheyne told police he didn't sleep much the night before and must have fallen asleep. While checking his ID, dispatch told officers that Cheyne had two active warrants out for theft and possession of a controlled substance. He was arrested and officers searched his truck. Inside they found a small digital scale, two small zip-top baggies. Officers believed there were illegal drugs in the truck and began a thorough search. They found a magnetic box attached to the back of the brake pedal. Inside there was another zip-top baggie that contained methamphetamine.
Cheyne was arrested and is being charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of a Controlled Substance, in addition to the two warrants.
