Navasota police have evidence that could help them solve last month's burglary at a local car dealership. The break-in was one in a string of Brazos Valley tire and rim thefts.

It's been a quiet three weeks since a ring of thieves burglarized two dealerships in the Brazos Valley. But investigators have been anything but quiet.

"We have also identified several other individuals through information forwarded to us by Louisiana, East Texas and Madisonville,” said Navasota Police Chief Shawn Myatt.

Two men were arrested in Madisonville 24 hours after the dealerships in Hearne and Navasota were burglarized. Madison County Sheriff Travis Neeley says a deputy caught the men with bolt cutters who appeared to be scouting out Henson Ford off I-45 in Madisonville. It's the same dealership that was burlgarized just 18 months before.

Police say the crime scene in Hearne was was so well-organized; the suspects were able to get away without leaving any fingerprints behind. But that wasn't the case in Navasota. Although a surveillance camera captured the individuals stealing $90,000 worth of tires and rims at Texas Custom Outfitters.

“There was surveillance footage that we collected, but we were unable to use it because of the quality,” said Chief Myatt.

With surveillance footage out of the question, Navasota Police are hoping the trail of blood will identify the culprit.

Blood was located on a vehicle door after one of the suspects smashed a window.

“They were breaking the windows to gain access to the wheel locks,” Myatt said. "We think that's when they cut themselves during that process."

The blood has been sent to a lab in hopes investigators will find a DNA match with a profile that's already in the system.

“With DNA evidence, you have to have someone or something to compare it to, but we do have enough persons of interest right now from what's been generated through other agencies in the area,” he added.

The DNA is just about the only substantial piece of evidence that could provide answers and land the ring of thieves behind bars.

This investigation is currently active and investigators are following up on possible leads. Anyone having any information concerning this crime can contact Navasota Police Department at 936-825-6124 and ask to speak with an investigator.
