Driver Killed in Early Morning Crash Near Columbus

An early morning crash in Colorado County has killed one person. It happened around 2 a.m. on Highway 71 west of Columbus.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the driver of the Buick SUV was killed instantly on the scene. The body was found mangled and troopers were not able to determine an age or gender. The driver has not been identified.

The highway was closed while troopers cleared the area, but was opened later Tuesday.
