DPS Troopers Detain Person Following High Speed Chase

DPS Troopers have detained a Washington County man after they say he led them on a high speed chase with speeds reaching up to 80 miles per hour on Highway 6.

Walter Kendall Hanks has been arrested and taken to the Brazos County Jail. News 3 has learned Hanks is wanted for a parole violation.

DPS Trooper Charles Booker says Hanks initially pulled over, but once the trooper got out of his cruiser and began his approach, Hanks sped off. After ditching his vehicle, troopers say Hanks ran through the Raintree Subdivision where residents help to guide authorities to his location.

A K-9 unit was also dispatched to the area. Troopers say Hanks was in possession of cocaine, marijuana and an assortment of pills.

Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers have detained one person following a pursuit that ended in College Station.

Trooper say the incident ended Monday afternoon after four on Highway 6 near the Raintree Subdivision.

At this time, it's unknown where the pursuit began or why the driver allegedly ran from law enforcement, but News 3 has learned a gold passenger vehicle is being impounded.

News 3 has a crew on the scene an will have updates as they become available.
