Family Picking Up the Pieces After Lee County Tornado

Updated: Sun 11:06 PM, Oct 14, 2012

Lee County Sheriff’s Office says a tornado touched down in the town of Lexington last night causing severe damage to a home.

"Joplin and Jarrell and all that, I never went to any of those places after it happened, but now I know what it feels like," said Darene Rexroat, a Lexington resident.

Deputies say the tornado lasted about 20 seconds in a rural area on County Road 408 near East FM 696 Road, but that's all it took to shatter windows, destroy a roof, and uproot trees.

Darene Rexroat was in College Station with her family when the tornado touched down. She was still shocked by what she came home to Sunday morning.

"It looks like a war zone," said Rexroat. "Its just now hitting. Its just now hitting me."

Her home was the only one severely damaged by the tornado, but Rexroat still considers herself lucky.

"That was God's gift sending us to College Station yesterday afternoon," said Rexroat.

No one was injured as a result of the storm.
