Davila Principal Shannon McGehee has been named the Region VI Middle School Principal of the Year by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP). Nominated by her faculty and reviewed by a TASSP committee, McGehee was selected from a region that consists of school districts serving a 15-county region.
Bryan ISD Superintendent Tommy Wallis said the award recognized McGehee’s attention to school improvement and building relationships with students.
“She richly deserves this recognition,” Wallis said. “After just one year leading Davila, her leadership style and focus on academics and school climate has set a new high watermark. We’re very proud of her.”
An educator for 19 years, McGehee previously taught at Bryan ISD’s Jane Long Middle School and in College Station before serving in administrative roles at Sam Rayburn Middle School, Rudder High School and now at Davila, as principal.
“I’m very touched that the staff would nominate me,” McGehee said. “I try to do the best that I can, and I feel very blessed to work with the children at Davila and our team every day.”
TASSP consists of more than 5,000 campus level administrators and was established in 1922 to build networks and focus on high quality leadership for schools. Region VI consists of school districts in the following counties: Leon, Houston, Robertson, Madison, Trinity, Polk, Milam, Brazos, Grimes, Walker, San Jacinto, Burleson, Montgomery, Washington and Austin.
McGehee will be recognized by TASSP at an upcoming workshop in June as well as during the Education Service Center Region VI Fall Conference in Huntsville this November.
