On Sunday a young woman died after being hit by a minivan two days earlier.

Friends and family left flowers in memory of a young woman who's life was cut short just a month before her 22nd birthday..

It was early in the morning on Friday October 12th that Desiree Vinson was crossing a street when she was stuck by a minivan..

She was on the the Rock Prairie side of the street and was crossing Longmire to get to the other side when she was hit about a quarter of a mile from her home.

Desiree was rushed to the hospital where she was listed in critical condition. But she never regained consciousness and died Sunday morning.

We spoke with her father on the telephone as he was making funeral arrangements for his daughter in Amarillo. Chuck Vinson says his daughter's loss is hard to take.

"When the detectives came over and told me there was an accident, right then things just started getting a little fuzzy for me and they told me that she had been struck by the car and she was in the hospital and it didn't sound good..everything just went gray. I just broke down," said Vinson.

Vinson says his daughter had a huge heart and was always happy.

"Just her beautiful smile, she could just smile at you and turn your whole day around," said Vinson.

As for why or how Desiree was struck and killed College Station police say they're still investigating.

"We may not ever know what exactly happened that morning if she had the go ahead or what was she doing out that early in the morning, it's just something that we may never know," said Patricia Logan with the College Station Police Department.

Her family is leaning on each other and God to get them through this tough time. Her presence will be missed.

Funeral services for Desiree Vinson will be held in Amarillo on Friday.
