Elder named principal at AMCHS

Gwen Elder was named the new principal at A&M Consolidated High School today by College Station ISD Superintendent Dr. Eddie Coulson.

Elder has been serving as the school’s interim principal since February 2, 2012 when former principal Buddy Reed was named Director of Student Activities.

“Ms. Elder is a huge asset to CSISD and A&M Consolidated High School,” Coulson said. “She is an excellent instructional leader and is very familiar with the culture and history of AMCHS.”

Along with being a 1986 graduate of Consol, Elder’s entire professional career has been at AMCHS. Prior to her role as interim principal, Elder served stints as the school’s associate principal, assistant principal, business education teacher, girls basketball coach and girls track coach. She was named the 2007-2008 AMCHS Teacher of the Year.

“I am excited and humbled to be named the principal at my alma mater,” Elder said. “I have spent a large portion of my life at A&M Consolidated High School and I look forward to the challenges of maintaining its academic excellence and rich traditions.”

Elder received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of North Alabama in 1991 and received her teaching certificate from Prairie View A&M University in 1994. In 2006, Elder completed her Master’s of Education in Educational Leadership at Sam Houston State University.

Elder and her husband, Derrick, have two children: Derrick, Jr. (14) and Derrion (10).
