Elizabeth Smart was only 14-years-old when she woke up to find a strange man in her bedroom.
With a knife to her neck, Brian David Mitchell abducted her and held her captive for nine months. The torture during that time included rape and being chained up, all while her captor said she was "lucky" to be chosen and that he'd never get caught.
Mitchell was caught and on March 12, 2003 Smart was reunited with her family.
Smart is 25 now and she travels around the world sharing her story of survival.
Thursday night she was the keynote speaker at the "Healthy Woman Anniversary Dinner." She sat down with News Three's Karla Castillo to talk about how she was able to overcome adversity and why she chose to be an advocate for other victims.
