Funeral services for a local marine killed in Afghanistan are to be held this weekend. Right now final arrangements are being made to bring home Sgt. Wade Daniel Wilson of Leona. While family, friends and those who fought by Sgt. Wilson’s side make their way to Leon County, some are using social media to try and bring even more.
Sgt. Wade Daniel Wilson died last Friday while fighting for his country. Wilson, 22, leaves behind family, friends and many others who fought by his side in Afghanistan.
"I was with Wade his first deployment to Afghanistan,” said Corporal Josh Marreel, who is making sure his friend and fellow marine won’t be forgotten.
"A lot of guys are flying in and driving from pretty much anywhere. We've got guys from North Carolina driving over,” said Cpl. Marreel.
Marreel and others are using social media to spread the word about Sgt. Wilson's death. While his friends were trying to come up with a good way to honor Wilson they remembered his love for a certain country music star."
From Youtube video: “This is a shout out to the one and only Taylor Swift. I know you have no idea who I am but this video isn't about me. This is about good buddy, Sgt. Wade D. Wilson, who was killed in action last Friday in Afghanistan. Anybody that knew Willy knew that he worshiped you. He even slept with a post of you in between our beds in Afghanistan."
Marrell and other marines even made a video on Youtube inviting Taylor Swift to Sgt. Wilson's funeral because he was such a huge fan of Swift.
“A big thing would be a video response or even just a letter to his parents saying you know how she supported what he did,” said Marreel.
Even if Swift doesn't show those who knew and cared about him most will still be there.
"We really just want to show Centerville how much Wade meant to us,” said Marreel.
On Friday, Sgt. Wade Wilson's body will arrive at 11:45 in the morning in Conroe from Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. A hearse will carry Wilson to Centerville where his funeral will take place Saturday. Crowds are expected to Line up at I-45 starting in Madisonville at the Highway 21 exit. Folks are asked to bring their flags.
On Saturday, Sgt. Wilson's funeral will take place at 10 am at the Centerville High School Auditorium. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the "Sgt. Wade Daniel Wilson Scholarship Fund" set up at Citizens State Bank in Buffalo and Centerville or any Wells Fargo location.
