BRYAN – A felon is headed back to prison for at least the next seven years after threatening to kill his girlfriend.

After a morning of testimony, Pedro Campos III decided to plead guilty to Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. He was sentenced to 14 years on the Aggravated Assault charge and 25 years on the other.

“Mr. Campos terrorized and beat his girlfriend,” said Assistant District Attorney Jason Goss. “This sentence will ensure her safety and will keep him off of Brazos County streets.”

In May 2013, Campos beat, strangled and threatened his girlfriend when she told him their relationship was over. Following his arrest, Campos called his cousin from jail and asked her to dispose of the gun he hid in the backyard of his girlfriend’s home. Police responded to the house and retrieved the gun which Campos was not allowed to have after being convicted in 2010 on burglary charges.
