The newly-redrawn U.S. House district that covers much of the Brazos Valley will feature a Republican primary matchup between the Bryan incumbent and a challenger from Austin.
At the Friday deadline to file for the May 29 primaries, George W. Hindman threw his hat in the ring to face Congressman Bill Flores, a first-term representative.
According to the state Democratic Party website, no one from that party filed for District 17, which was changed significantly when judges in San Antonio finalized redistricting maps recently.
The district still covers Brazos County, but it now snakes west through all of Burleson and small portions of Lee, Bastrop and Travis Counties.
No information on Hindman was immediately available through the Republican Party website.
