Former Bryan Businessman, Korean War Survivor Norman Beal Dies

BRYAN, Texas A longtime Bryan businessman, teacher, and Korean War hero has died.

Norman Lee Beal passed away Saturday at the age of 83.

Beal was the former owner of the State Motel in Bryan, once taught at Texas A&M as well as Allen Academy.

He also served in the United State's Marine Corps.

In 1950 he fought in the Korean War as part of the "Chosin Few."

During a 17 day conflict many soldiers died or suffered severe frostbite after having to fight their way out of the Chosin Reservoir in modern-day North Korea.

Beal's funeral is set for 2 P.M. Wednesday, August 14th at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.
