Updated: Mon 12:45 PM, Nov 05, 2012

A former caregiver of an assisted living facility in Jewett -- has been arrested and charged with abuse.

Kevin Lewis, a former caregiver and supervisor at Ruth Marie's Country Home in both Leon and Limestone County has been arrested on charges of injury to an elderly or disabled individual. In recent weeks, Adult Protective Services contacted Leon County investigators after receiving documentation of the alleged abuse between Lewis and an elderly and disabled patient inside an assisted living facility in Limestone County.

After Viewing the magnitude of the evidence, Leon County investigators along with a Texas Ranger issued a warrant for his arrest. Lewis ended up turning himself in nearly two weeks later.

In August we first told you the state terminated Owner, James Simpson's right to provide care after finding evidence of neglect in a number of homes in Jewett. The state is continuing their investigation into at least 10 reported cases of abuse at numerous assisted living facilities more notoriously known as Ruth Marie's Country Home in Jewett. Since then Simpson's alleged girlfriend, Gail Champagne, has taken over under a new name: Paramount Care. It hasn't even been two months into her leadership and the state has already terminated Champagne's right to provide services. We've also been told all evidence is now being reviewed by the Attorney General.
