WHEELOCK, Texas An elderly Robertson County woman who died in a fire at her house in Wheelock Saturday night is being remembered as one of the most prominent members of the community.
News 3 spoke with neighbors and friends about the life of Tillie Hedrick.
Hot spots are still smoking at what used to be the home at one of the most well-known families in Robertson County.
94-year-old Tillie Hedrick was found near the rear of her home on Barziza Street in Wheelock during a fire Saturday night.
"If we had more people like Tillie Hedrick we would have a much better world," said neighbor Clara Perkins.
Perkins knew her 34 years. Tillie taught her son at the Elementary School in Franklin and so many others. She says she heard a muffled explosion Saturday thinking it might be oil or gas wells. She didn't see a fire until later.
"I went out to my yard and I could see her house was totally engulfed with flames and it was very shocking, very horrifying," said Perkins.
As the fire continues to smolder we still don't know what happened on Saturday.
Former Franklin resident and family friend Susy Dorsey drove by the fire scene to pay her respects. She's known the Hedricks nearly 20 years.
"What I remember the most was her smile when she was such a good devout Christian lady," said Dorsey.
The Hedrick Family has deep roots in Robertson County.
Franklin High School's football stadium is named in her late husband Joe's honor who was head football coach.
Her two sons are current head and assistant coaches, while her daughter Molly serves on the Franklin City Council with Mayor Charles Ellison.
"I would say that she had a full life and she is in a better place," said Mayor Ellison.
The State Fire Marshal's Office is continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
Wheelock Fire Officials say they found no evidence of an explosion causing the fire.
Tillie Hedricks' Funeral is set for this Wednesday at 11 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Franklin.
A private burial service will follow.
