Grimes County Go Texan Weekend for 2013 is coming up January 25 through the 27th at the Grimes County Fairgrounds.
Before things get underway, the Chief Cooks Meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 8, at 7:00 p.m. at the Go Texan building. Teams get in for $150, which includes brisket, chicken and ribs entries. For chili entries, it's $25.
On Friday, January 25, a chicken fried steak dinner courtesy of Wayne Fread gets underway at 6:00 p.m. The $15 entry fee includes dinner and dancing, and a live auction will go towards scholarships for Grimes County students. Jeff Woolsey and the Dance Hall Kings will perform starting at 8:30 p.m. Dance-only tickets are available for $5.
Saturday, January 26 will feature chili judging, along with horse shoes and washer tossing, plus a dance with music from the Desert Roads Band starting at 9:00 p.m. Tickets for the dance are $5. A carnival, food, crafts, a petting zoo and more will be there this day and the next.
Sunday, January 27 is when the brisket, chicken and ribs will be judged. Plus, open brisket winners will be announced.
