COLLEGE STATION, Texas Game day in College Station is a time for friends, fun and food. Lots of food. That's why grocery stores around the area are gearing up for what's being called the biggest game of the season.
As Alabama's Crimson Tide rolls toward A&M, fans are already stocking up on snacking supplies.
"We'll be doing burgers, brisket, ribs and all our favorites," said Kroger shopper Chantell Deuel.
"I usually get chips and nuts and things like that," said Earl Beckman, another Kroger shopper.
Phillip Ingrim is a co-manager at the Kroger on Longmire and Rock Prairie. He said his store is stocked and ready for the rush.
"We order the stuff in ahead of time," said Ingrim. "Make sure we keep it on a cart. That way we can make sure it's full for the customers throughout the day."
Ingrim said their chicken wings are one of his biggest sellers.
Charles Dorsey with the HEB on William D. Fitch Parkway said they started planning for this weekend a couple of weeks ago.
Dorsey said bottled water is one of their biggest sellers leading up to the Alabama game. That's because fans are allowed to bring in their own bottled water to Kyle Field this season.
"But we've offset it by bringing in pallets to make sure we stay on top of that," Dorsey said.
Dorsey said they've got extra staff ready for the rush.
"Wednesday through Saturday, getting close to game day, we're going to have a lot of extra partners here to make sure we do the basics," Dorsey said. "Filling the water, filling the soda, just replenishing items."
Dorsey said they also plan to have all of their registers open on game day starting at 7 a.m..
Both stores said they have plenty of good sales for game-day fans.
Texas A&M will battle it out with Alabama Saturday. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. at Kyle Field.
