Hempstead I.S.D. is mourning the loss of one of its teachers, after he was killed in a car wreck over the weekend.

According to DPS, 59-year-old Randell Lacey was driving his vehicle eastbound on Highway 105 near Montgomery High School when he was struck head-on by a Dodge Pickup heading in the opposite direction.

DPS officials say the driver of the pickup lost control in the rainy weather conditions.

Lacey was extracted from his vehicle and taken to Conroe Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries.

DPS reports that both drivers were wearing seatbelts...but despite the force of the impact, witnesses on scene say Lacey's airbags did not deploy during the collision.

Hempstead ISD is providing counselors for students affected by this tragedy.

Funeral arrangements for Lacey are scheduled for Wednesday, October 3rd at 6:00pm at the Hempstead High School Auditorium.

Hempstead ISD is also setting up the Randell Lacey CTE Memorial Scholarship.

If you'd like to contribute..funds can be sent directly to Hempstead ISD.
