Hershey's Track and Field Games Coming to BCS May 18

The HERSHEY’S Track and Field Games — an event for kids 9-14 years old that’s been hosted across the United States and beyond for more than 30 years — will be held at Merrill Green Stadium at Bryan High School on May 18 at 10 a.m.

The games are sponsored by The Hershey Company and co-hosted locally by parks and recreation departments from the cities of Bryan and College Station. The goal is to encourage physical fitness among youth and emphasize participation and sportsmanship.

Kids from across the Brazos Valley can sign-up at no cost to compete in up to three of the following events:

Ages 9-10
• 50-meter dash
• 100-meter dash
• 200-meter dash
• 400-meter dash
• 4x100-meter relay
• Standing long jump
• Softball throw

Ages 11-12
• 100-meter dash
• 200-meter dash
• 400-meter dash
• 800-meter run
• 4x100-meter relay
• Standing long jump
• Softball throw

Ages 13-14
• 100-meter dash
• 200-meter dash
• 800-meter run
• 1,600-meter run
• 4x100-meter relay
• Standing long jump
• Softball throw

- Relay teams must be formed prior to the games.
- Age category is determined by how old the participant will be on Dec. 31, 2013.

Local winners will advance to the state final in Round Rock on June 22. Winners at that level may become eligible for competition at the North American Final held Aug. 1-4 in Hershey, Penn. Complete rules are available at hersheystrackandfield.com.

How to register or volunteer
There is no cost to participate, and you must register in person (a certified birth certificate is required) at either the Bryan Parks & Recreation Office or at the College Station Parks & Recreation Office. While there, consider signing up as a volunteer to assist with the day’s events.
