A Walker County man is arrested and jailed after police say he assaulted his wife -- then led deputies on a chase across four counties.
Madison County Sheriff’s officials, including Texas DPS Troopers, were called in to assist a high speed pursuit involving 35-year-old Gene Landon Fowler of Walker County. They say Fowler left the scene of a domestic disturbance call and began traveling at a high rate of speed towards Madisonville.
“He was about a mile away from the Madisonville square traveling somewhere around 100 to 115 miles an hour and he wasn't stopping for anyone,” said Madison County Sheriff Travis Neeley. “It was a mad dash to get to the square and close down the roads so he wouldn’t run anyone over.”
Authorities were informed he was possibly armed and heading towards his family's home in Hilltop Lakes, a community just outside of Normangee.
"During the pursuit we learned the Leon County Sheriff’s Office was working a homicide investigation in Hilltop Lakes, so we didn’t know if he was connected or not; we just wanted to inform Leon County that a man was heading their way and he was armed and dangerous," said Neeley.
Deputies were able to shoot out two of Fowler’s tires.
“He ended up traveling another 15 to 20 miles with two of his tires blown out before he veered off the road and into the sand,” added Neeley. “We then were able to box him in and capture him.”
Fowler is charged with four counts of evading arrest along with domestic violence. Neeley says he has an extensive criminal background including a prior charge of evading arrest. Leon County Sheriff Jerry Wakefield confirmed Fowler is not connected to the missing person investigation at Hilltop Lakes.
