Hundreds of people attended a candlelight vigil in Caldwell Monday for a 16 year old boy fighting for his life after being critically injured in a car accident.

Friends and supporters gathered at the square in Caldwell this evening wearing boots and carrying candles in honor of Christopher Shultz, who is listed in critical condition at a Houston hospital. The group shared stories, sang songs, and prayed for Shultz and his family.

The crash that injured Schultz happened Saturday just before 9pm in Burleson County near Lyons and shut down traffic on FM 60 East for about two hours.

Department of Public Safety trooper, Sgt. David Adkins says Schultz was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle and veered into the path of a westbound Dodge truck. Schultz suffered a serious head injury and was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan where he underwent emergency surgery and was later airlifted to Texas Children's Hospital.

Adkins says the two people in the pickup were not injured.

Of the three people involved in the wreck, Adkins says, Schultz was the only one not wearing a seatbelt.
