COLLEGE STATION- Even though the biggest event of the Brazos Valley is weeks away, the party started early. Friday morning, hundreds of people had been lined up for more than 24 hours to sign up their teams for Chilifest.

Texas A&M senior Clay Bludau and his team started lining up at 8:00 a.m. Thursday, even though the line wasn't supposed to start until noon.

"Our team has been here for probably around eight, 10 years," Bludau said. "So, it's been a tradition the whole time and we are just trying to take over our team and keep it going."

Bludau and his team, "No Regrets," were the first in line to claim the best spot for their team.

"When you sign up you try to be at the front of the crowd and everybody and be closest to the stage," he said. "That's the main goal."

The sign up line was out the door and organizers said this is a record breaking crowd for opening day.

"Comparatively, there is a lot more buzz this year than in the past couple of years, which we are really excited about," said Chilifest President Tanner Newton. "So we are hoping for a big year, and a bigger year for us means more donations."

More than two million dollars has been given out to local charities from money raised at Chilifest over the years.

Newton expects more than 30,000 people this year. If the sign up line is any indicator, this Chilifest should be one for the record books.
