Law enforcement officers from Bryan and College Station tonight hit the foot patrol for neighborhood block parties.

Brant Wann is new to his south College Station neighborhood. At National Night Out, he says he got a chance to meet his neighbors, and he brought his children along to meet the police.

"They know if anything happens, they can go to the police, and the police will help them. That's what they are there for to help them with anything that they need, and any trouble that they have,” said Wann.

Hundreds of residents who live in the Shenandoah Subdivision in South College Station showed up with their kids for the same reason.

Children were able to meet Bob the robot. Police say the bomb squad uses this device for bomb threats or going into barricaded areas.

"A lot of times when you see police officers, it's not in the best of circumstances. This is an opportunity to see the fire truck, let the kids climb on it, meet the policemen and know that if something suspicious is happening in your neighborhood, call it in,” said College Station Mayor Nancy Berry.

Berry says the event is a great opportunity for residents to meet law enforcement and eat some good food.

"It's great. It's a lot of fun. The food is always great. You have to pace yourself,” said Berry.

Later in the evening, we headed over to a block party off of West Villa Maria in Bryan.

"It seems to get bigger and better every year, and it is good to know who is living around you,” said Kirsta Herder, a Bryan resident.

Several residents say this year’s National Night Out was a success.
