A Brazos County jury has sentenced a Bryan gang member to 30 years in prison for his role in the death of a Bryan teen in 2010.

Jose Castillo was convicted Thursday of engaging in organized criminal activity in the Mother's Day 2010 killing of 17-year-old Christopher Hutchson near Downtown Bryan.

Castillo, a member of the Latin Kings gang, faced between five and 99 years in prison for his crime. He was the last of five people to face trial in relation to Hutchson's death.

The 22-year-old received 30 years in prison each for the two charges he faced, but those sentences will run concurrently. Because of an affirmative finding by the jury related to use of a deadly weapon, Castillo must serve half of the sentence before he is eligible for parole.

Closing arguments were made Friday morning, and the jury began considering Castillo's punishment right after. Jurors took just about an hour to decide the defendant's fate.
