Plans to redevelop and expand Texas A&M's Kyle Field gained momentum this year with increased ticket demand and A&M's jump to the Southeastern Conference.

This story was chosen by News 3 viewers as the number 10 top story of 2012.

A huge win over number 1 ranked Alabama was just one of many ingredients for success by the Texas A&M Football team, going 10 and 2 on the season and getting a bid to play in the Cotton Bowl.

Add a big splash of Quarterback Johnny Manziel winning the Heisman, and Offensive Tackle Luke Joeckel taking home the Outland Trophy, and you've got ever increasing demand to see the Aggies play.

A&M has no problem selling out the 82,589 seats at Kyle Field, and then some on game days.

That's why A&M embarked on a plan to renovate and expand Kyle.
In April the University hired Populous to conduct a design study, and in June a conceptual design was floated on the internet, with A&M Vice President of Communications Jason Cook saying it was just one of 47 concepts A&M is considering, and not the official final version.

But the plans have sparked excitement among Aggie Fans.
"I am ecstatic", proclaimed one fan at Northgate.

As part of phase one, which begins this fiscal year, the west stands or alumni side would be demolished and rebuilt, presumably after the 2013 season.

But before that we could see the demolition of G. Rollie White Coliseum, the Read Building adjacent to Kyle, and the Netum Steed training facility.

A new south zone part of the stadium would be built, with 10-thousand seats on the upper level, and 7-thousand additional seats possible in the future.

The plans call for changes on the east stands or student side with the lower seating bowl being rebuilt and suites added.

And the playing field itself would be lowered by 7 feet and moved 18 feet south to add six more rows on the east and north sides, and improve sightlines for fans.

Even more ingredients to enhance Texas A&M Football of the future.
