It's simply a matter of time before Kyle Field gets a complete makeover. For now the new SEC emblems will have to do, but in a few years it could have a completely new look.
This week a concept drawing of Kyle Field has been making its way around the internet and this thing is the real McCoy. At least one of them.
"I think the new Kyle Field is gorgeous," said fan Russ Gibbs.
"I like the size," said College Station resident Otis McGresham.
"It's bigger," said incoming freshman Britny Wells.
"I like that it's enclosed all the way around," said A&M Consolidated student Josch Motley.
A sports facility design firm called Populous has been given the task by A&M to conduct the study on the stadium. This is one of its options.
"I can't imagine a more attractive venue to impress our new competitors," said Gibbs.
While the drawing is impressive, it's not the official final version. According to Texas A&M Vice President of Marketing and Communications Jason Cook, the drawing is one of 47 concepts that A&M is discussing to replace the current Kyle Field.
In an email to News 3, Cook said quote
"It is important to note that this drawing is not an architectural rendering. We are not close to that stage of the process. This was simply a conceptual drawing to stimulate conversation and feedback as to what might be possible for Kyle Field. We are currently exploring 47 different options for Kyle Field, with an emphasis on exploring different funding models at the present time."
Some of the biggest factors is this drawing includes the demolition of G. Rollie White Coliseum.
"I don't know if it's a big loss. From a historical stand point, there are people who are going to remember that G Rollie White was there. There are always going to be people that come back to campus, see the changes, and reminisce. That's just one of the necessary evils to change," said McGresham.
Some say the concept has the same look as the newly renovated Blue Bell Park.
"One of the things A&M has lacked is a unified architectural theme. To have a couple of sports venues next door to each other that looks the same will only enhance our presence," said Gibbs.
No time table has been set as to when a final decision on Kyle Field's design, rebuilding, or funding will be revealed or started but for now it seems A&M has thrown its fans a bone to chew on.
