A paycheck can be one of the biggest gifts during the holiday season, but many in the Brazos Valley are still looking for work.
The search can be a long one, but one company is working on putting people in jobs.
When Christi Blair wanted to spread a little holiday cheer to the residents at 21 Gramercy, she knew it would be a lot of work. She didn't have a lot of time.
"We had a lot of holiday things that we wanted to move forward with to that we didn't just have that extra person to get us where we need to be," said Blair.
So, she enlisted the help of Express Employment Professionals who sent someone to save the day. Thanks to their Pay It Forward hiring drive, they had just the person looking for any type of work this holiday season.
"This is the first year we've done it," explains Marketing Representative Russell Dempsey.
"We know from the response we've received and the overwhelming positive response from local business owners that this is something we're gonna do year in, year out, every year," continues Dempsey.
The goal is putting 50 people in a job by the end of the year. Hoping that it will bring a pay check home for the holidays.
"People are excited to go back to work and especially during this time," said Dempsey.
"It can just be almost depressing and debilitating to be out of work during the holiday season."
Removing their profit, Express Employment hopes the drive is a stepping stone to permanent employment.
Business owners are already looking forward to next year.
"Absolutely," Blair laughed.
"I'm gonna be saving up! I'm gonna be prepared this time and have an agenda of exactly what we'd like for them to do."
Express Employment wants to get as many people in a job and working by the end of the year. They've had about 20 people request a job and have placed 8.
