18-year-old Brandy Drozd was born and raised in Bryan but thanks to her shotgun and incredible shooting, she's seen the world.

But it all started at the Boswell-Porter 4-H Range near Snook.

"I was eight years old, in the third grade, and I started at this range in 4-H," said Drozd.

In just five years, Brandy was selected for the USA shooting team. At just 13 years old, she had one accurate shotgun and was willing to travel.

"I had no idea I'd be traveling overseas, doing any of the things I'm doing right now. I just thought of it as a way to practice for dove hunting," said Drozd.

This fall she participated in the International Shooting Sports World Cup Finals in Slovenia.

"It's definitely on a different level than what you have here in Texas or in the United States," said Drozd.

The competition went into an overtime shootout and in the end she defeated German Christine Wenzel to take the silver medal.

"Definitely my biggest award thus far," said Drozd.

For Brandy, incredible concentration is her key to knocking down clays. Keeping it sharp and her nerves at a minimum is how she handles her intense sport.

"You know, each competition you go to, you learn more and more how to deal with it. It never goes away though, you just have to have that mental game, keep those thoughts out," said Drozd.

But thoughts of the Olympics in 2016 do keep filling her head and for her to make it, the target is simple.

"Just keep doing what I'm doing basically," said Drozd.

Brandy's inspiration is another local shooting champion Connie Smotek. Smotek is an Aggie and a U.S. Olympian who was the first female member of the Brazos County 4-H Sportsman's Club back in 1978.
