The freshman leadership class at the KOR Education School in College Station is getting ready for a big weekend.
"I just hope we can get a big number," said student Rylan Fowler.
Fowler and fellow student Peter Hamiter are two of the nine classmates hoping to collect 70,000 diapers for the Hope Pregnancy Center.
"On the first day, we had 13,000," said Hamiter.
The effort is part of their leadership class and it's been in the works for some time.
"We've been working on this for about three months," said Fowler.
"They decided that would be a good ambitious project for them," said Tracy Frank with the Hope Pregnancy Center.
So far the center has already taken in a lot of the students' donations.
"They got a good assessment of what our need was and they were really quite shocked when we told them we pass out 70,000 diapers a year."
But the big drive starts on Saturday when the group will set up at Hope Pregancy for the official Huggies for Hope Diaper Drive.
"We are the next generation and we need to learn what it means to be a leader and how to lead," said Fowler.
"It just feels good to help other people out," said Hamiter.
"We've still got a long way to go so come on out," said Fowler.
The Huggies for Hope Diaper Drive kicks off at 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon and will end at 8:00 p.m. at the Hope Pregnancy Center.
