Everyday thousands upon thousands of people go out to eat in B/CS.
It's a big part of life for residents and students, but according to a website we don't have much to offer on the menu.
Chow.com has named College Station as one of the top 10 college towns with the worst food. Despite having a row dedicated to restaurants, the website refers to College Station as a charmless city, like "one giant strip mall" with undistinguished "cantina" Tex-Mex and an overabundance of chain restaurants.
"I think somebody went online and did a Google search on line and didn't spend anytime in the market whatsoever because we obviously have fantastic restaurants," said Wade Beckman.
Beckman owns Shipwreck Grill and even promotes local eateries with a program called the Taste of B/CS.
"This town has always had fantastic restaurants for years and years and known for some of its traditions like the Chicken and Chicken Oil Company and obviously restaurants featured in the Taste of B/CS that have been here for a long time. It's just crazy that somebody would associate no variety and no uniqueness to this market," said Beckman.
"I really think that a town can lose its distinct taste if it's not careful," said Charles Stover.
Stover is a self proclaimed food addict that owns the Stover Bros. Café and he believes the chains do prevent some from trying new things.
"Sometimes people choose that convenience and that oh I just want to go some place familiar over the places that are trying to do different food. Branch out, there are hundreds of local places in the area that have great food that you've probably never tried because it's not commercialized," said Stover.
"If you're bringing somebody to town, take them someplace local, take them somewhere different. The chains obviously provide a service and variety in themselves but if you come to Bryan/College Station and you don't check out one of the unique cool places then you probably missed out a little bit," said Beckman.
