Local Teen Sentenced 150 Days In Jail For Killing Driver

Updated: Mon 10:49 PM, Mar 05, 2012

A Bryan teenager, who pled guilty to driving while intoxicated and killing a Katy resident, was sentenced to 150 days in jail and 10 years of probation.

On March 23, 2010, 72-year-old Ron Combs was killed by August Money. Investigators say 21 year-old Money was driving over 100 mph and rear-ended Comb's car on Interstate 45 near Houston.

After her father's death, Darcy Combs can't drive down a highway without thinking about her best friend, Papa Ron.

“He died. Mr. Money killed him on his birthday. My dad's birthday,” said Darcy.

No one from the Harris County District Attorney’s office wanted to speak with us on camera, but they tell us Money could have faced up to 20 years behind bars.

His punishment wasn't just encouraged by Money's family.

“Hopefully being a young person, he will be able to influence other people his age and talk about the dangers of drinking and driving,” said Combs. "My dad would want him to live a life of responsibility to work hard. I would hope that he would honor that."

Money promised to fulfill that request in court.

As part of his sentence, he has to become a Mothers Against Drunk Driving advocate and speak to thousands of teenagers about the effects of drinking and driving.

Darcy says Money's message will be the voice for her family and more importantly Papa Ron.
