COLLEGE STATION, Texas It's been a long road for R. Bowen Loftin. A road that's now leading the Texas A&M University president to Missouri, to take over as the new Chancellor at the University of Missouri.
At a press conference Thursday, Loftin said he was excited about the change.
"I feel right at home. I see lots of bow ties here," said Loftin.
Loftin said there weren't many schools he would have thought about associating with after Texas A&M.
"Missouri fits all the pieces," Loftin said.
University of Missouri President Tim Wolfe had nothing but good things to say about the university's new Chancellor.
"It has been said, that when your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader. Our next Chancellor is just that," said Wolfe.
Wolfe said the decision on a new Chancellor wasn't easy. The University held public meetings last summer to gain input from faculty, staff students, alumni, donors and the general public.
"You told us that you wanted a Chancellor that would decisively lead our university, embracing change, working through influence, earning the trust and respect of the entire campus community," said Wolfe.
During his ten minute speech, Loftin talked about his history with the university, working as a young professor in the 1970's.
"I was a very young professor, very much starting out in my profession. I had no money, except a little travel money to get here," said Loftin.
Loftin made no mention of why he decided to leave Texas A&M.
