BRYAN A long-standing local cafeteria is closing its doors.
Employees received notice Thursday that as of this coming Tuesday, Luby's Cafeteria on Texas Avenue in Bryan will be closed for business.
"In closing, Luby's would like to extend its appreciation for the extraordinary service that you have given to our customers," reads the end of a letter given to employees Thursday. "We will try to do as much as possible to make this transition less burdensome for you. We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors."
The letter was provided to KBTX by an employee who asked to remain anonymous, but who said the company indicated to employees that Luby's was exploring options to open a new location in the area in the next year or two. The employee said company officials indicated the location of the current Luby's was not conducive for business given growth in other parts of the city.
The employee also said the Luby's crew was told by the company that the current property had been sold, but the new owners were not revealed to them.
A call has been left with Luby's office in Houston for more information.
