Lucas Coe Conviction Upheld

The 14th Court of Appeals affirmed Coe’s conviction this week.

Coe was found guilty on September 21st, 2010 and sentenced to life without parole two days later. Coe immediately filed an appeal.

Four year old Emma Thompson died of injuries from
sexual abuse at the hands of Lucas Coe. Four-year old Emma Thompson died on June 27th, 2009 after Coe sexually and physically abused her. He was not charged with murder because he would have had a chance at parole.

An autopsy showed that Emma Thompson had a ruptured pancreas, a fractured skull, 80 bruises on her body and a sexually transmitted disease.

Abigail Young, Emma’s mother and former Brenham nurse, was convicted of reckless injury to a child by omission and sentenced to 20 years in prison, the maximum punishment.

Prosecutors said Young lied to protect Coe before and after the girl’s death, knowing that Coe had faced a previous charge of injury to a child.

Coe was found guilty of super aggravated assault.
