There’s plenty of construction on University Drive in College Station. Workers with Linbeck Construction are hard at work. It's all part of a new trend in luxury high-rise student apartments.
Campus Acquisitions is developing the Rise at North Gate, an 18-story, 184 apartment high-rise. Michael Yeagle says the apartments will rent from $700 to $1,300, with the option to upgrade to penthouses. Up to 17,000 square feet will include shops, restaurants and a grocery store with a parking garage.
Just next door, an apartment complex called The Stack will take the place of the old Albertsons. It's a five-story student housing complex with an underground parking garage. Both complexes are expected to be completed just in time for the fall 2013 semester at A&M.
This trend in luxury living began about three years ago when the Lofts at Wolf Pen Creek came online. Rachael Destin says it's definitely a change from the old school dorm rooms.
"It's a really amazing place to live because there's so much here," says Destin.
Amenities at the Lofts include a state of the art gym, tanning beds and game rooms with 40" flat screens. Prices range from $449 to $1,195 per person for 1 to 4 bedroom apartments.
"It's expensive, but for what you get and what they have here I think it's definitely worth it," said Destin.
The next luxury living complex will go up where the Plaza went down. It will soon consist of 5,300 square feet of restaurants, stores and public spaces, plus almost 100 beds for student housing. Expect completion by the fall of 2014.
