MAGNOLIA A Bryan man was killed Monday night in a fiery car crash in Montgomery County.
Around 8:30 p.m., the Magnolia Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a major accident just north of the intersection of Wood Trace.
When crews arrived at the scene, they discovered a black 2007 Pontiac had struck a free and utility pole.
The car and power lines were on fire.
Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the blaze.
Fire crews later discovered 24-year-old Stephen Novacek, who had been ejected from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to witnesses, the vehicle had been traveling northbound on SH 249 at a high rate of speed, when the lanes narrowed from three to two, Novacek tried to cut in, but lost control striking the curb. The car crossed the lanes and struck the tree and pole.
DPS have not released the name of the man killed while they attempt to notify the family.
