On June 10, 2012, Deputy Everton with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was patrolling Highway 59 in the Splendora area when he noticed a commercial passenger bus that had a defective right tail lamp. After stopping the vehicle Deputy Everton deployed his partner K-9 partner Ranger and Ranger immediately jumped inside the luggage area alerting to an area inside the bus. The deputy found inside the bus a hidden compartment with 7,261 grams of packaged cocaine, 3,355 grams of heroin and 89 grams of black tar heroin.
The bus driver Juan Vorrath (54 yoa) from Elgin, Illinois and passenger Ramiro Trevino Jr. (29 yoa) from San Benito, Texas were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, money laundering and possession of a criminal instrument and placed into the Montgomery County jail.
The estimated street value of the narcotics is estimated to be $1,000,000.
