The opening of Northpoint Crossing in College Station next month is bringing some much needed road improvements to the area near University Drive and Texas Avenue. More than 50-thousand drivers travel daily through that busy intersection. Along with the 900 students the upscale student housing development is expected to bring in, hundreds more will visit the area for the shopping and dining experiences.
Veronica Morgan is one of the engineers with Mitchell and Morgan in charge of the road improvements that have already begun. So far, dual turning lanes southbound from Texas to University are complete, and new traffic signals are in place to be activated on July 15th. The extension of the median on Texas Avenue and the construction of two turn lanes on University will begin soon to help traffic flow smoother and safer.
"When we analyzed the traffic patterns it shows us how the traffic is operating today, and how it will operate with future traffic added to it from the development. This particular impact analysis showed that this development created the need for some additional lanes," Morgan said.
Many of of the improvements will be completed by the time students begin moving into Northpoint Crossing on August 20th.
