"Muslims for Peace" held their annual blood drive to honor and commemorate the victims of 9/11.

The blood drive was held Monday and Tuesday at the Easy Stop Gas Station at 1910 Labrisa Drive in Bryan.

The Muslim organization is collaborating with "Commit for Life" of The Blood Center Brazos Valley.

About 10,000 pints of blood were collected last year, and the goal this year is to surpass that amount.

The organization says the donations can save over 30,000 lives.

Ahmad Kamal Rahman is hoping to change the way Muslims are seen here in the Brazos Valley by bringing in more blood from and for the community.

"A lot of times, they hear bad things on the TV about Muslims. When a Muslim does something, it becomes big news," Rahman said. "Some arrogant and Ignorant people took 3,000 lives 11 years ago, but what we are trying to say is there are bad Muslims and good Muslims. Now, every year, my community is donating around 10,000 to 12,000 pints of blood which can save up to 36,000 lives. We are trying to convey to our community that, first, we love this community. We are a part of this community and we are trying to give something back to our community. This is a humanitarian effort."
