Bryan Police say neighbors caught a burglar breaking into the house next door; but it’s what they did next that helped put the suspect behind bars.

The neighbor reportedly notified Bryan Police that a burglar had just smashed through the back door of a house on the 3100 block of Heatherwood Drive.

Authorities say the burglar stole hundreds of dollars of electronics, then tried to get away by jumping the fence.

Police say they arrived within minutes and spotted the suspect, 18-year-old Quintarius Jackson, running away in the neighborhood. Jackson was reportedly dropping his belongings along the way.

Bernice Carlos says Jackson jumped her fence, then ditched the sweater he was wearing in her backyard.

“We didn’t know what to do,” said Carlos. “I've only heard about that on TV. I've never had it happen anywhere near where I have been.”

After chasing him through the neighborhood, Bryan police caught up with Jackson and placed him under arrest.

Neighbors say they are relieved that the suspected burglar was caught.

“It only leads you to wonder who else is out there and who else would do something like that,” said Carlos.

Police say all the stolen items were returned to the owner.

Quintarius Jackson is charged with Burglary of Habitation, Evading, and Criminal Trespass.
