UPDATE: Due to weather, TxDOT have delayed the sign work on Highway 6 until Wednesday. Officials were due to start the process at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday.

The 75 mph speed limit is only in effect if a sign is up stating such.

BRAZOS COUNTY — Weather permitting, today, the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Brazos County Maintenance crews will be installing the new 75mph speed limit signs on SH 6, from the Robertson/Brazos County Line to the Grimes/Brazos County Line. Once these signs are installed the new 75mph speed limit will be in effect.

TxDOT crews will begin at Benchley and work their way to the south. Once the southbound lanes are complete they will work on the northbound side of SH 6.

“Depending upon the weather, we hope to have all of SH 6 done today”, stated Bob Colwell, spokesperson for the Department. “Tomorrow we will work on SH 47 from SH 21 to FM 60 installing the 75mph speed limit signs. Once SH 47 is complete, we will change the speed on SH 21 from the Brazos River to the west of the Bryan City Limits from 70mph to 75mph.”

The 82nd Texas Legislature passed and the Governor signed House Bill 1353 which allows TxDOT to establish 75mph speed limits on Texas highways providing speed studies showing it can be done safely.

Texas’ economic strength depends on the efficient and safe movement of people and goods. These new speed limits increase highway efficiency while maintaining the safety of the transportation system.

Safety is our top priority at TxDOT. TxDOT would like to remind all motorists who travel this area to drive to the conditions, buckle up, and put down the cell phones.
