A Guatemalan native living in Plantersville died Monday after his car was hit by a train shortly after midnight.

The deadly collision happened in Grimes County at County Road 302 and FM 1774 near Todd Mission.

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Ken Balzekas says Cesar Letran’s vehicle was disabled on the railroad tracks and the Union Pacific train could not stop in time.

Balzekas says the 48-year-old man was sitting inside his 1994 Toyota sedan and after the northbound train collided with Letran’s car, the vehicle was dragged down the tracks about 100 yards.

The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the collision. Nobody on the train sustained any injuries.
