A man accused of killing a Caldwell woman and sexually assaulting her granddaughter is now in police custody.
It all started at around 6:30am on Fawn Street in Caldwell.
DPS says the suspect, Eddie Lee, shot and killed the older woman earlier this morning, and sexually assaulted her 15-year-old granddaughter.
DPS says granddaughter then managed to escape and was able to notify authorities.
According to DPS, the suspect was holed up in the woman's house for several hours before he eventually surrendered to a Burleson County Sheriff Deputy.
"Caldwell Police, Burleson County Sheriff's Swat Team as well as the DPS Swat Team responded to the scene. The Texas Rangers were also called in to assist.
Lee is currently in the Burleson County jail. News 3 has learned that Lee is a registered sex offender; he was convicted of indecency with a child in 1993.
The woman's granddaughter was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
The identity of the woman killed has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
An autopsy has been ordered.
The Texas Rangers are now handling the case.
