Authorities in Burleson County are investigating an auto-pedestrian accident in Snook.

51-year-old Cleva Lee Burton of Bryan was walking along the street and stepped into the road when he was hit by a Lincoln sedan.

Police say Burton's truck had broken down at the intersection of FM 60 and FM 2039. He was walking back to his truck from Snook, with his back to traffic, when police say he stepped into the roadway as the vehicle was approaching. The driver was unable to react and struck Burton. It's not clear why he entered the roadway before he was hit.

Burton was flown to Scott & White Hospital in Temple. He is in critical condition.

Late Monday afternoon, FM 60 had to be shut down after the collision, but has since been reopened.

The driver, a woman from Burton, did not suffer any injuries. Police say there were two other passengers in the vehicle.

No charges are pending at this time.

More details to come as they become available.
