Two thieves were caught on camera during a smash and grab burglary at a Walgreens Pharmacy in Brenham. It happened just before 2:30 Friday morning, and police say the suspects got away with a trash bag full of prescription pain pills.
It took several attempts but after three minutes -- not one, but two crooks successfully shattered their window of opportunity. On Friday at approximately 2:26 a.m., surveillance footage from a Walgreen's in Brenham captures two African American men climbing through the pharmacy drive-thru window. The suspects were in and out in approximately 42 seconds.
Brenham Police Corporal and Public Information Officer Chris Jackson tells News 3, “It would appear they [suspects] knew where they were going and what they were doing."
You can see the first suspect crawling through the broken window; once on the ground he darts straight to the second aisle. He then turns around and runs back to the window to grab a black trash bag from his accomplice.
The suspect runs back to the aisle, and according to police, steals 18 bottles of hydrocodone. The two then take off before police arrive on scene. While Brenham Police say it's the first time this pharmacy has ever been hit -- that's not the case for many of our neighboring counties.
“Giddings Police Department had a break-in of a Brookshire Brother's similar to the one we had here at Walgreen's as well as other agencies in the Houston area and the DFW area,” Jackson explained.
It's too early to tell whether or not the two suspects could be related to those crimes, but investigators in Brenham are continuing to examine a critical piece of evidence these two men left behind.
“There were some fibers that were recovered and we have some leads and suspects that we are following up on," said Jackson.
Police are urging the public to come forward with any information that could lead to an arrest.
