COLLEGE STATION, Texas A College Station Medical Center nurse is recovering after, police said, he was stabbed in the chest early Tuesday morning.
Investigators said around 3 a.m., a patient at the hospital, 23-year-old Yuchen Lei of College Station, pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the nurse in the chest.
"The victim, a 52-year-old male, received incapacitating injuries and received treatment for the inflicted wound," said Lieutenant Chuck Fleeger with the College Station Police Department.
Fleeger said they're still trying to figure out what caused Lei to lash out.
"The subject refused to cooperate with efforts to determine why this attack occurred," said Fleeger.
Investigators said it was hospital employees who came to the rescue.
"The nurse that had been attacked began to call for assistance. Other emergency room personnel came in and were able to gain control of the suspect and removed the knife from his hand," said Fleeger.
Fleeger said when police arrived, Lei became combative and spit in the face of one of the responding officers.
Lei was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and harassment of a public servant. He was taken to the Brazos County Jail and held on $23K bond.
If convicted, Lei could face up to 20 years in prison.
