A two year investigation has ended with the arrest of a Bryan teenager who police say broke into a local church and got away with nearly $2,000 in property.
Fingerprints recovered from the scene of the burglary on April 27, 2010, led police to 18-year-old Miguel Angel Moreno after he reportedly broke into the Santa Teresa Catholic Church on Lucky Street in Bryan. According to reports, Moreno stole a wedding ring set worth $1,500, a $90 digital camera, and $450 in cash from a desk inside the church office.
Police say a witness was inside a conference room at the church during the burglary. The witness says he didn't see anything, but did hear noises coming from the hallway. Since missionaries work various hours throughout the day, the witness says he didn't think anything unusual. After learning there were no missionaries present, he ran outside and locked the church doors. That's when he noticed a fair-skinned Hispanic male in the courtyard counting an undisclosed amount of cash. The witness says he approached the male who then ran away.
A warrant was issued after a positive identification through fingerprints. Moreno has been booked into the Brazos County Jail and is currently being held on $10,000 bond.
