Prairie View A&M Police Investigating Off-Campus Shooting

Prairie View A&M University Police responded to an off-campus shooting Thursday afternoon that injured one person.

Investigators say shots were fired at University Drive and Echols Street, injuring one person, who was taken to a hospital by Life Flight.

Police say the shooter fled the scene in the direction of University Drive, toward Highway 290.

They say no Prairie View student was injured, but one student was detained by authorities.

A statement from the university says there is no imminent danger for students residing on the main campus or in the nearby area.

The City of Prairie View is handling the investigation.
